Jamaat-e-Islami Hind Alleges Politically Motivated Demolition Drives and Raises Concerns Over Electoral Roll Revision

Jamaat-e-Islami Hind has alleged that demolition drives in Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, Maharashtra, and Delhi were politically motivated and conducted without due legal process. The organisation also raised concerns over the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls, urging transparency, constitutional safeguards, equal treatment under the law, and protection of eligible voters.

Jamaat-e-Islami Hind (JIH) on Saturday alleged that demolition drives targeting mosques and residential settlements in several states were politically motivated and carried out without following due legal process. The organisation claimed that demolition operations in Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, Maharashtra, and Delhi disproportionately targeted a particular community. It also expressed concern over the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, alleging that the process must be conducted in a transparent and inclusive manner.

Addressing a press conference in New Delhi, JIH leadership alleged that there was a biased approach in the implementation of demolition drives across different states. The organisation stated that although one or two Hindu religious structures had also been demolished, such actions should not be carried out in this manner. It alleged that the government was attempting to govern by creating an atmosphere of fear and intimidation among the public. According to the organisation, the demolitions were being conducted in the name of development and security without adherence to the prescribed legal process.

JIH further stated that a delegation sent by the organisation to parts of Rajasthan had found instances where mosques, shrines, and other structures were allegedly demolished without following due legal procedure. It alleged that religious structures belonging to the Muslim community were selectively targeted during the demolition drives. The organisation called for greater transparency, strict adherence to constitutional safeguards, and equal treatment under the law during such actions.

The organisation also voiced concern over the ongoing Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls. It clarified that it was not opposed to the revision exercise itself but questioned the manner in which it was being implemented. JIH stated that the process was being conducted in a hurried manner and stressed that no legitimate citizen should be excluded from the electoral rolls because of procedural shortcomings.

The organisation pointed out that many citizens migrate to other states for employment and may not be present during the verification process. It asserted that the names of such eligible voters should not be deleted from the electoral rolls and alleged that no particular community should be singled out during the verification exercise.

Urging the Election Commission to ensure fairness in the revision process, JIH called for the Special Intensive Revision exercise to remain transparent, inclusive, and citizen-friendly. It also demanded adequate safeguards to prevent the exclusion of eligible voters while maintaining the integrity of the electoral process.
